Saving Sections: Global Sections, Section Templates, and Universal Sections

When you go to save a section in FG Funnels, you will be given the option to save as a Global Section or as a Section Template. While they are both ways to save a section, they are very different. This article will explore the differences and use cases for both.

What are Saved Section Templates?

Saved Section Templates allow you to create, save, and reuse content sections across multiple assets, such as funnels, websites, webinars, and online stores, within your FG Funnels account. You can choose between three types of saved sections: Universal (syncs everywhere), Global (syncs within a single asset), and Template (static, reusable, and non-syncing).

  • Section Templates (static, reusable, and do not syncing): You can save a section of your funnel or website page as a copy, which can be used anywhere as a template. So you can drag-and-drop this saved section into a different funnel or website.

  • Global Sections (syncs within a single funnel or website): Saves at the funnel or website level. So, you can save a section of your funnel or website page as a global section, then drag-and-drop this global section on to any other page within the exact same funnel or website that you saved this global section in. Any changes you make in one instance of the global section will sync across every instance of the global section that you have used through out the funnel or website.

  • Universal Sections (syncs everywhere): Saves at the account level. Any changes in one instance will sync across all instances, account-wide. So, you can create a universal section within one funnel or website, then drag-and-drop this universal section on to any other funnel or website page within your account. When you update the universal section within one funnel or website page, your changes will be applied to every instance of the universal section within every funnel or website that you used this universal section.

This system ensures design consistency, saves time, and reduces confusion about how content updates propagate.

Difference between Universal and Global Sections:

Universal Sections - update automatically across every instance in the account across funnels, websites, webinars, and online store.

Global Sections - update only within the current funnel/website.

Key Benefits of Saved Section Templates

Saved Section Templates offer several advantages that help users manage content more efficiently and maintain brand consistency:

  • Centralized Updates: Universal sections automatically sync changes across all instances of the universal section that you used in funnels, websites, webinars, and online stores.

  • Flexible Reuse: Choose between Universal, Global, or Template sections based on your needs for syncing or static content.

  • Visual Selection: Automated screenshots and clear labels make it easy to preview and select saved sections.

  • Efficient Cloning: Cloned sections and snapshots get unique IDs, so edits to copies won’t affect originals.

  • Improved Performance: Enhanced backend architecture ensures faster syncing, better reliability, and secure template management.

  • Reduced Confusion: Clear section types and visual cues help users understand how edits will impact their content.

  • No Personal Data Stored: Only layout information is saved, protecting user privacy.

Best Practices for Section Management

  • Plan your section type before saving, as it cannot be changed later.

  • Use Universal Sections for content that must stay consistent everywhere (e.g., headers, footers).

  • Use Global Sections for content unique to a specific funnel or website.

  • Use Templates for reusable blocks that may need customization in each instance.

  • To change a section’s type, clone it and save the clone under the desired type.

How To Set Up Saved Section Templates

Global Sections

  • Global sections are specific to the funnel or website in which they are saved. Meaning that you can access them from other pages within the same funnel or website, but you can't access them from other websites or funnels.
  • Global sections apply changes made to the section and the elements inside of it globally, meaning that it will be changed in any instance of the section on any page. When you make a change to a global section and save, you will get a warning letting you know you made a change to a Global Section to remind you that other pages will have changed too.
  • Global sections are outlined in dark purple rather than the traditional green of a section.

  • Only one instance of a specific global section can appear on each page, so you wouldn't be able to add one global section to the same exact page more than once.
  • Global sections can be great for sections like headers and footers that need to be consistent across pages.

Section Templates

  • Section templates can be accessed from any funnel or website within your account so you can access them not only in the funnel or website they were originally saved in but also in any other funnel/website in your account.
  • Section templates simply bring the content as it was saved into your page. Any changes you make after the section template has been added to a page will not affect any other page or the template itself.
  • You can add as many instances of a section template to a page as you wish.
  • Section templates can be great when you want to use a section as a base across multiple pages but make changes within that section without affecting other instances.
  • Here is an example of a section template:

Universal Sections

  • Saves at the account level.
  • Any changes in one instance will sync across all instances, account-wide.
  • You can create a universal section within one funnel or website, then drag-and-drop this universal section on to any other funnel or website page within your account.
  • When you update the universal section within one funnel or website page, your changes will be applied to every instance of the universal section within every funnel or website that you used this universal section in.
  • Here is an example of a universal template ( see the footer at the bottom of the image ):

Here are the steps for creating a saved section:

1) Navigate to your funnel, website, webinar, or online store inside your FG Funnels account and open the page editor.

2) Choose the section you want to save for reuse.

3) You can save a section by clicking on the section, so it is highlighted in green. Then go up to the options in the top left corner of the section and click the save/floppy disk icon. A save modal will appear.

4) In the save panel, give the section a descriptive name so you can easily identify it when you are in the Global Section, Section Template, or Universal Section menu.

5) Choose Section Type:

    • Universal: Syncs updates to all instances of the universal section across all funnels and websites in your account.
    • Global: Syncs updates only within the current funnel or website.
    • Template: Creates a static, reusable section that does not sync when edited elsewhere.

Important Note: Name your section and choose how you would like to save the section, as a Section Template or Global Section or a Universal Section. Once a section is saved as Universal, Global, or Template, the section type cannot be changed.

6) Click save and your section will now be saved as either universal, global, or a template depending on what you chose.

7) When editing another funnel or website page, use the “Add Section” option to browse and insert your saved Universal, Global, or Template sections.
