This guide will help you ensure your business registration details are accurate and compliant with IRS and CRA requirements. Follow these steps carefully to avoid delays or errors in your registration process.


 U.S.-Based Businesses

Important: If you are a U.S.-based business, your EIN must be active for at least 45 days before registration. This waiting period ensures that the IRS has fully processed your EIN and that it is recognized in their system.


If you do not have an EIN, you can apply for one online in just a few minutes: Get an EIN from the IRS.


When filling out the registration form, ensure your details are an EXACT MATCH to the details on your CP575 letter that you received from the IRS. Pay close attention to the following:


  • Commas, hyphens, spaces, and spelling.
  • Your 'Legal Business Name' (e.g., 'ABC Company').
  • Your EIN (Employer Identification Number).
  • Your "Authorized Representative" (e.g., "Jane Doe") refers to the name of the person listed on your CP575 document. This name should be entered exactly as it appears into the "Authorized Representative" field. If your name is listed on the CP575, make sure to enter your name in the "Authorized Representative" field.

If your CP575 letter lists your address as 'Apt. 9A,' avoid entering:

  • #9A
  • Apt 9A
  • Apt-9A

If you’ve moved since filing your EIN application, use the address currently on file with the IRS. If you’ve updated your address with the IRS, use the updated address. Otherwise, use the address listed on your CP575 letter.



For Canadian Businesses

If you are a Canadian-based business, you will need a Business Number (BN) issued by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). You can learn more about obtaining a BN by visiting this page: CRA Business Number Information.
