How to Create Assignments & Quizzes for Membership Courses
Add quizzes and assignments to your membership courses to check what learners have absorbed, collect their work, and give feedback. This guide walks you through creating both, configuring passing criteria, and reviewing results.

What Are Quizzes and Assignments?
Membership courses support two distinct kinds of graded activity—they are not the same thing:
- Quizzes are question-based checks. You add single- or multiple-choice questions with correct answers, and can require a passing grade.
- Assignments are where students submit their own work—a file or written response—rather than answer preset questions. Assignments can be graded or left ungraded.
Together, quizzes and assignments are reported under Assessments in your course analytics, where you can review and export their results.
Key Benefits
Quizzes and assignments let you measure progress, reinforce retention, and personalize feedback—especially useful for certification courses or multi-module programs. With them you can:
- Add interactive learning to any lesson, category, or product
- Set a passing grade on a quiz to create clear knowledge benchmarks
- Collect student work with assignments, graded or ungraded
- Give students real-time feedback
- Allow multiple attempts and answer review on quizzes
- Track results and submissions in analytics
How to Add a Quiz or Assignment to a Course
1. Open the Products Tab Under Memberships
From the left-hand menu, go to Memberships, then choose Products from the Courses dropdown. This opens your course (product) library.

2. Choose the Course You Want to Edit
In the Products tab you’ll see a gallery of your existing courses with their titles and member counts. Click any product to open it and add a quiz or assignment.

3. Add Content to a Category
Inside the course, the Product Structure (Outline) panel organizes your lessons, quizzes, and assignments. Click + Add Content next to any category (or from the top right) to add a new item.

4. Add a Quiz or Assignment
Clicking + Add Content opens a menu. Select Add Quiz or Add Assignment to create a new item in that category.

5. Manage Status and Visibility
Once created, the new quiz or assignment appears in your content list. Use the status dropdown to set it to Published, Draft, or Locked, and hover a row to reveal the edit and delete icons.

6. Configure an Assignment
An assignment lets students submit their own work—a file or written response—rather than answer preset questions, and it can be graded or left ungraded. Give the assignment a title and module, then open it to set up:
- Assignment Name — the display name learners see
- Instructions — clear guidance on what to submit, with formatting tools and hyperlinks
- Assignment Material — supporting files for students (e.g. .pdf, .docx)
- Assignment Thumbnail — a visual for the assignment (great for branding)
- Ungraded Assignment — enable to accept submissions without scoring them
- Completion Message — a custom message shown after a student submits

7. Configure a Quiz
A quiz asks preset questions with correct answers and can require a passing grade. If you chose Quiz, open it to configure:
- Quiz Name — visible to learners
- This quiz requires a passing grade — enable to grade performance, then set the Passing Grade (%)
- Quiz Thumbnail — a branded or themed visual
- Success Message — feedback for learners who pass (supports formatting, links, and embedded content)
- Add Question — build the quiz with single- or multiple-choice questions, correct answers, and optional explanations

8. Save, Draft, or Publish
When you’re done editing, use the controls in the editor—Draft, Preview, Save, or Save & Publish—to manage visibility. Be sure to save your changes before you leave the editor.
What Learners See After Submitting
For a quiz, what a learner sees depends on how you configured it:
- If a passing grade is enabled: learners see their score and which answers were right or wrong—but not the correct answer itself.
- If a passing grade is disabled: learners also see the correct answers and any explanations you added.
Learners can review previous quiz submissions and retake the quiz to reinforce learning or improve their score.
For an assignment, the learner submits their work (a file or written response) and sees your completion message. Ungraded assignments are marked complete on submission; graded assignments are scored, and the result appears in your assessment analytics.
How to Analyze Quiz and Assignment Results
The Assessments area of your course analytics collects results from both quizzes and assignments. You can export results as a CSV for offline analysis, sharing, or custom reporting. Exports respect any filters you’ve applied, so set your filters before downloading.
1. Go to Analytics
From the left-hand navigation, select Memberships. In the top ribbon, open the Courses dropdown and choose Analytics.

2. Open Assessments
On the Analytics page, click the Assessments card (“View assessments results”).

3. Apply Filters
Filter by Products or Result. The results table shows each submission’s title, learner name and email, completion, result, and percentage, with per-row actions.

4. Export the Report
Click Export in the upper-right corner to download the report. Your selected filters apply to the exported data.
What happens next depends on the size of your data set:
- Small data sets: the file downloads instantly in your browser.
- Large data sets: you’ll receive an email with a secure download link that expires after 24 hours.
Note: Only users with an Admin or Instructor role can access the Export button.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I reuse the same quiz or assignment in different products or lessons?

Can students retake the same quiz?
