Canonical Links in Blogs and Blog Posts

If you are hosting duplicate content in multiple pages of landing page, setting a canonical URL will tell search engines which content contains the preferred version.

A canonical URL is the version of a webpage chosen by search engines like Google as the main version when there are duplicates. This selected URL is prioritized to avoid showing repetitive content that does not provide unique value in search results.

In this example, Google will likely choose the canonical URL for indexing and ranking. The canonical page is also called the “principal,” “primary,” or “representative” version. A canonical tag, also known as rel="canonical" tag, is a snippet of HTML code that allows you to define the “primary” version in a set of duplicate or near-duplicate pages on your site.

  1. Navigate to Sites from the left hand menu and then Blogs from the top menu once you are in Sites.

  2. Select the name of the Blog Site that you want to add the canonical link to.
  3. When you see the list of posts, you will see a button labeled "Edit Blog Site" on the right side above the list. Click the Edit Blog Site Button.

  4. Edit the Blog by clicking the name of blog with the button of Edit Blog Site.
  5. Click on the SEO Metadata in the left side of the middle row of the top toolbar. The icon looks like a piece of paper with writing on it and a magnifying glass in the bottom right hand corner.
  6. When the panel opens, click to open the section titled Links & Tags.
  7. Click Add next to canonical links and add your canonical link.

  8. When you publish the content of Blog, it shows in canonical links.


Setting the Canonical Link for a Blog Post

  1. Navigate to Sites from the left hand menu and then Blogs from the top menu once you are in Sites.

  2. Select the name of the Blog Site that contains the blog post you want to add the canonical link to.
  3. From the list of your blog posts, select the blog post you want to add the canonical link to.
  4. Add content if needed, then click Continue or Update from the top right hand corner.
  5. In the Publish or Schedule section, under the URL slug, you will be able to set the canonical link.
