How to Complete a Test Payment Using Square

This article outlines the steps to successfully run a test purchase through the a funnel checkout page using Square.

How to Run a Test Purchase Through Your Funnel Checkout Page with Square


  1. Click on 'Sites' in the left side menu.
  2. Select the funnel you want to test.
  3. Click on 'Settings' at the top of the funnel.
  4. Scroll down to 'Payment Mode'.
  5. Toggle it off (it should turn grey and show the word 'test').
  6. Click 'Save' at the bottom.
  7. After saving, you will be redirected to the overview page.
  8. Copy the URL link for your checkout page.
  9. Open an incognito browser window.
  10. Paste the copied URL into the address bar, and open the checkout page.
  11. Enter any name for the test contact.
  12. For the email address, use your own email.
    1. To run multiple tests without creating new emails, add a '+' and a word after your email (e.g., test+test1@example.com).
  13. Always close the previous incognito window before starting a new test.
  14. Note that the phone number field is disabled to avoid merging contacts.
  15. If testing text messages, use a different phone number each time or delete the contact before re-testing.
  16. Once you've entered your name and email address, click 'Go to Step Number Two' on your order form.
  17. Choose your recurring or monthly payment product and any order bump products you want.
  18. Check that the total price is correct and that the test mode icon is displayed.
  19. Use a Square test card (link provided below the video).
  20. Enter a future expiration date.
  21. Use '111' for CVV ( this is just the number in the Square documentation ).
  22. Enter a valid postal code.
  23. Click 'Complete Order'.
  24. Wait for the order to process and be redirected to the OTO page ( if you have an OTO page ).
  25. Choose to add the OTO or skip it.
  26. You will be taken to the thank you page, confirming the test purchase.
  27. Close the incognito browser.
  28. Go back to your funnel "Settings."
  29. Toggle 'Payment Mode' back on (it should turn blue and show 'live').
  30. Click 'Save' to accept live payments again.
