How to Set Up a Dedicated Sending Domain (LC Email)

Email marketing is a great way to reach customers and increase sales. But if you're not careful, you could end up in trouble. A dedicated sending domain gives you control over what appears to be coming from your business. That means you can avoid spam filters and other issues that might get your messages caught by unwanted mail servers.

A dedicated sending domain also is an important step to compliance with the new rules that Google and Yahoo put in place in February of 2024.

Please Note:

Please note that this article only applies to users of the LC Email system. If you need to set up a dedicated sending domain for your MailGun account, the following steps will not work.

If you are using a new domain that has never been used for email, please make sure to warm up your domain before emailing to a large list. Failure to do so will result in poor deliverability results. You can learn more about the email warmup process on our Message Wizard page.

What is a Dedicated Sending Domain?

A dedicated sending domain allows you to send emails that appear to be coming from your brand, which can help you maintain a better reputation with email services. Any account can create a dedicated sending domain, and it's quick and easy.

By default, all emails sent from FG Funnels will show the name of our email-sending servers in the "sent on behalf of" or "sent via" email headers:

If your sending domain is fgfunnelsmail.com, you are using the default sending server and will want to set up a dedicated sending domain.

When you set up your own custom mail server domain, you will see a different "mailed-by," "sent on behalf," or "sent via" field.

You need to make sure that you are using a dedicated sending subdomain. This should be a unique subdomain that is not used for any other purpose. Please DO NOT enter your root domain as it will break your existing business email inbox.

A subdomain is a secondary part of your root domain. For example, if your dedicated sending domain is hello@mg.yourbrand.com, your subdomain would be the “mg” portion.

You can also use a different domain for email, however, if you use a different domain for your dedicated sending subdomain, then you will need to use this new domain to create a new business email address as well. This is so you can have what is called "domain alignment," which is one of the email requirements Google and Yahoo released at the beginning of 2024. If you want to know more about the updates from Google and Yahoo, you can review our page here.

How to Create a Dedicated Sending Domain for Domains Outside of FG Funnels

Please Note: If your domain is managed by Wix, you will not be able to create a dedicated sending domain due to limitations set by Wix. The only resolution at this time is to move the domain off of Wix, or use a different domain for email.

Please Note: If you use a different domain for your dedicated sending subdomain, then you will need to use this new domain to create a new business email address as well. This is so you can have what is called "domain alignment," which is one of the email requirements Google and Yahoo released at the beginning of 2024. 7. Open your DNS Manager and add the domain records given to you by LC Mail. The video above walks through this as does the How to Add a Domain and Verify DNS Record for Your Dedicated Email Sending Subdomain article. If this is a new subdomain you are adding, you should only add records, do not edit or delete any existing records.

If you don't know how to access your DNS records, the links below are instructions for a number of common domain registrars and DNS managers. If your registrar is not listed, you can search "Your Registrar Manage DNS Records" and your registrar should have a help article.

How to set up a dedicated IP

FG Funnels does not offer a dedicated IP through LC Mail as these are very costly. For example, Mailgun offers a dedicated IP starting on their $80/month plan, and it is not available on their $35/month plan.

We use a mix of dedicated IPs and IP pools across several sending domains, ensuring that deliverability stays high across the board.
