Getting Started with Client App Builder: Build Custom Web and Mobile Apps with AI
Client App Builder lets you create personalized, branded web portals and Android mobile apps using AI, without writing code.
Just describe your business and the experience you want to create. AI helps plan your app, design its pages, connect the FG Funnels features you already use, and build a working experience you can preview, customize, and publish.
Whether you're building a learning portal, coaching platform, membership experience, or branded mobile app, Client App Builder helps you bring your ideas to life using the FG Funnels tools and data you already have.
Availability: Client App Builder is available under Settings > Labs.

What Is Client App Builder?
Client App Builder is an AI-powered app builder that helps you create custom experiences for your clients and members.
Unlike traditional website builders, where you arrange every element by hand, Client App Builder lets you describe what you want in plain language. AI generates the design, pages, navigation, and supported functionality for your app.
What can you build?
Web apps: Fully customized, browser-based Client Portals where members can access courses, join communities, manage appointments, browse shared files, and interact with your business.
Mobile apps: Branded Android apps with personalized navigation, layouts, colors, and native mobile capabilities. You can generate an installable Android APK right from the builder.
How does it work?
- Describe: Tell AI about your business and the experience you want.
- Personalize: Answer setup questions and choose your branding and design preferences.
- Build: AI creates your app's pages, screens, and supported functionality.
- Customize: Refine your app through chat or the available visual customization tools.
- Preview: Explore your app before publishing.
- Publish: Launch your web app or generate an installable Android app.
Your apps run on your existing FG Funnels Client Portal, including member accounts, courses, communities, and supported CRM data.
How to Enable Client App Builder
Client App Builder is currently available through Labs in your settings.
Step 1: Enable the feature
- Open your FG Funnels account.
- Go to Settings > Labs.
- Find Client App Builder - Mobile and Web App.
- Turn it on.

Step 2: Open Client App Builder
Once it's on, go to Memberships. Client App Builder is the first tab across the top, and Memberships opens to it by default.

Creating Your First App
When you open Client App Builder, you'll see a prompt box where you can describe what you want to create. The box shows a rotating example idea; press Tab to use it as a starting point. You can also click the image icon to add a logo, screenshots, or a mockup for the build to follow.

Step 1: Describe your app
For example:
"Build a member portal for my online business coaching program. Members can buy a package of 1:1 coaching sessions, see how many sessions they have left, book calls, take my signature course, join our private community, download worksheets, and view and pay their invoices. It should feel warm, polished, and easy to use on a phone."
The more you share about your business, audience, and the features you need, the more tailored your first version will be. A good description answers four questions. You don't need all four, and one line still works:
- Who is it for? Your business name, and who signs in: members, clients, patients, or students.
- What do they do? Two to four actions, like book a class, track an order, or pay an invoice.
- What do they see? The details that matter, like price, date, status, or photos.
- How should it feel? A few style words, like calm and premium, or warm and friendly.
When you're ready, click the arrow button to start.

Step 2: Choose a starting point
Next, you'll see Choose a starting point. Pick your:
- Platform: Web (a web app for desktop and mobile browsers) or Mobile (a mobile app experience for iOS and Android).
- Starting point: Describe it instead (every page designed from your prompt) or ClientPortal standard (your existing Client Portal, restyled for your business). See Choosing Your Starting Point below.
You'll also see a list of Templates marked Coming soon. They're preview-only for now, and you can request a template you'd like to see added.
Click Continue when you're ready.
Important: You can't change the platform or starting point after the app is created. To use a different one, create a separate app.

Step 3: Answer the setup questions
Under Some questions I need clarity on, AI asks a few questions based on your description:
- What should we call it? The name your customers see when they sign in.
- Here's what your app will include: Features chosen from what you described, already ticked. Untick any you don't need, or tick others to add them (for example Appointments, Communities, Courses, Invoices, Estimates, Contracts, Shared files, or Billing & subscription).
- Questions specific to your app, such as who manages session packages.
- Use custom objects in your CRM for this? Choose Yes if members need to add or see their own records. Not everything needs one: information about a single member, like a session count, usually works better as a contact field. See Using CRM Data and Custom Objects in Client App Builder.
The Your app so far panel on the right updates as you answer. Everything stays editable after the build. Click Next when you're done.
Tip: Check the feature list carefully. In our test, Shared files wasn't ticked even though the description asked for downloadable worksheets.

Step 4: Choose your design
Under Choose your look, pick a design system. Each one sets the fonts, colors, shapes, and motion together. The one that best matches your description is marked Best fit, and Explore more shows additional options.
If you'd rather handle the design in your own AI tool (such as Claude Design, Codex, or Cursor), choose I'll design it myself.
Click Build my app to continue.

If you chose ClientPortal standard, you'll see A few design choices instead. Pick a color palette and a font pairing, then click Build my app. You can change both later in the Theme panel.

Step 5: Review and build
After you click Build my app, AI reads your prompt and answers and works out a plan. You'll see a progress screen (for example, Step 1 of 6 · Setting up your app) while it works. This can take several minutes.

When the plan is ready, it appears on the canvas with a short summary and these sections. Click any section to expand it:
- What members can do: Step by step, what your members will be able to do in the app.
- Your data: The CRM records the app will create or change, such as new Custom Objects and their fields.
- Who sees what: Which records each member can see.
- Look & assumptions: Your design system, fonts, app name, and anything AI assumed.

Read the plan carefully before you approve it. AI may leave out or simplify something you asked for, and it doesn't always tell you. If something important is missing, ask for it before building.
You can then:
- Request changes: Type what you'd like changed in the box that opens, then click Send. AI revises the plan and shows you a new draft.
- Not now: Close the plan without building.
- Build: Approve the plan. The button describes what will happen, for example Create 2 record types, update 1 and build.

If the revised plan has to leave something out, you'll see a Needs your attention note at the bottom.

If the plan creates new record types, AI may offer to add a few sample records (for example, three starter announcements) so your app isn't empty. You can add an image to each, then click Add records, or choose Not now.

Then AI builds your pages. You can follow its progress in the chat panel. The whole build can take 15 minutes or more. When it's done, you'll see Your app is ready and the preview opens.
Choosing Your Starting Point
Client App Builder gives you two ways to create an app.
Option A: Describe It Instead (vibe coding)
Choose this when you want AI to create a custom experience from your description. AI generates pages, layouts, and navigation based on your business needs and design preferences. It's ideal when you want something distinctive rather than a standard Client Portal layout.
For example:
"Build a coaching portal with a personalized welcome dashboard, upcoming sessions, available programs, and a member community."
For supported web apps, you can also use visual editing, AI-suggested next steps, and page-building prompts to keep developing your app.
Option B: ClientPortal Standard
Choose this when you want to start with the familiar FG Funnels Client Portal and customize its look and navigation. You can personalize supported built-in pages, adjust branding, and configure layouts without rebuilding everything from scratch.
For standard web apps, starting features include dashboards, products, lessons, communities, and invoices. Mobile functionality may differ.
Tip: Even with ClientPortal standard, AI may suggest new record types in your CRM (for example, a goals tracker) that you didn't ask for. Read the plan before you build, and click Request changes if you only want the standard portal.

Which should you choose? Pick Describe It Instead for a more custom, AI-generated experience. Pick ClientPortal Standard to keep the familiar portal structure while personalizing its design and navigation.
Customizing Your App with AI
Your first build is just the beginning. You can keep refining your app through plain-language conversation.
Make changes through chat
When your app is ready, the chat panel on the left summarizes what was built and may link to the new records in your CRM (Open in CRM). It also suggests next steps you can click, such as a page to build next.
Use the Ask AI to make another change box to ask for updates such as:
- "Make the homepage more modern and minimal."
- "Move Courses to the top of the navigation."
- "Add a page for upcoming workshops."
- "Change the primary color to match my brand."
- "Make the course cards more prominent."
Follow-up requests generally keep your existing design unless you specifically ask for a redesign.
Tip: Ask for one change per message. Small, clear requests work best, and AI is less likely to leave something out.

Use the Prompt guide
Not sure what to ask for? Click the book icon at the top right of the builder to open the Prompt guide. It has ready-made prompts you can copy, tweak, and send, grouped into Change something, Add a feature, Show your CRM data, Change the look, and Fix a problem. You can also search all prompts.

Click Open the full guide for more help:
- Prompts and their apps: Example web and mobile apps, each shown next to the prompt that built it. Filter by industry, find one close to your business, and adapt its prompt.
- Write your own: The four questions a good prompt answers, with an example that shows each one.
- After it's built: How to refine your app one change at a time.

Use visual editing
For web apps created with Describe It Instead, you can select elements directly in the preview using Visual edits. Select the elements you want to change, then describe the change. You can select up to 20 elements in a single visual-edit request.
Build missing pages
AI may build your main pages first and leave linked pages (such as a course player or invoices page) for later. To build them, click a suggested next step in the chat panel, or use the Build buttons in the Publish dialog (see Publish your web app). Pages are built two at a time.
Customize layouts and themes
For ClientPortal standard apps, you can also make changes yourself, without asking AI. Once your app is ready, use the buttons next to Chat at the top left of the builder.
Click Layout to open the Screens panel. It has four sections:
- Brand: Your app name, description, logo, app icon, and the image on the sign-in screen.
- Entry points: The landing page visitors see before they sign in, and the page members open to after they sign in.
- Navigation: Reorder and rename the sidebar groups, add your own groups, add links to other pages, and embed a public webpage as a custom module.
- Screen layouts: Choose which blocks appear on each screen, their order, and whether each screen is turned on.

Click Theme to change your app's colors and fonts. Choose a theme suggested for your business or one of the Ready-made looks, or click Advanced to set each color yourself.

Note: The Layout and Theme buttons are greyed out while your app is building, and for apps created with Describe it instead. Those apps are customized through chat and Visual edits.
Previewing and Publishing Your Web App
Preview your app
Client App Builder gives you a live preview so you can explore your app as you build it. The preview shows your app as you see it when signed in. For web apps, the controls above the preview include:
- A desktop/mobile switch.
- Back and forward navigation.
- The preview address.
- Open in a new tab.
- Reload.

If your preview sits idle for a while, it may pause to save resources. Return to the builder to resume it. Published apps aren't affected by an idle preview.
Publish your web app
When you're happy with your app:
- Click Publish at the top right of the builder.
- Review any warning about links that go to pages that aren't built yet. Members who open those links will see "Page not found."
- Click Build next to a page to build it, or Build the first 2 to build two at a time. Or skip this step and publish with those pages incomplete.
- Under App address, choose your permanent app address on .app.clientclub.net. You'll see Available when the name is free.
- Click Publish (or Publish anyway if some pages aren't built yet). Publishing usually takes under a minute.

You can publish more changes later, or unpublish the app when needed.
Connect a custom domain
You can connect your own domain once your web app is published, using Add domain under Custom domains in the Publish dialog. Client App Builder walks you through connecting it, with manual DNS setup available when needed. You can connect up to 10 custom domains to a web app.
Note: You can't use a domain that's already set as your account's active Client Portal domain.
Managing Your Apps
Once you've created an app, the Client App Builder home screen shows My projects below the prompt box. Each app's card shows a preview, its name, whether it's a web or mobile app, and its status (for example, Draft). Click a card to open the app in the builder.
To manage an app, hover over its card and click the ⋯ menu. You can:
- Star the app.
- Rename the app.
- Delete project.

App limits
You can create up to 5 apps per account, web and mobile combined. If you've hit the limit, delete an existing app before creating another. You can also go beyond this limit by Building Client Apps with Your Own AI (MCP).
Important: Deleting an app is permanent. Double-check before you confirm.
Who can access your apps?
Access depends on your user role:
- Admins can view, edit, and delete any app created in the account.
- Standard users can create apps and manage the apps they own, but can't see other users' apps.
Anyone who can open an app can also use its publishing controls.
Going Further
Once you're comfortable with the basics, these articles cover the rest of Client App Builder:
- Using CRM Data and Custom Objects in Client App Builder: Connect the FG Funnels features you already use, let members submit and see their own records, and pair your app with workflows.
- Building and Publishing Android Apps with Client App Builder: Create a branded mobile app and generate an installable Android app.
- Building Client Apps with Your Own AI (MCP): Build and edit apps from Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, or another AI tool, without using AI credits.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need coding experience to use Client App Builder?
No. Describe the experience you want in plain language and AI helps build it. You can keep refining your app through chat and the available customization controls.
Can I use my existing FG Funnels courses and communities?
Yes. Client App Builder works with supported Client Portal features, including courses, communities, shared files, appointments, and member accounts.
Can I create both web and mobile apps?
Yes. You can create both in the same account, within the combined limit of five apps. Each app must be created as either Web or Mobile. See Building and Publishing Android Apps with Client App Builder.
Can I convert a web app into a mobile app later?
No. The app type can't be changed after it's created. Create a separate app for the other platform.
Can I use my own domain?
Yes, for web apps. You can connect up to ten custom domains per app, as long as they meet the domain requirements.
Can I make changes after publishing?
Yes. You can keep editing your app and republish web apps with updates. For mobile apps, see Building and Publishing Android Apps with Client App Builder.
What happens if an AI build stops or fails?
Review the build status or error details, then send another prompt to continue or fix the issue. If a build is interrupted, the builder gives you an option to continue with a new message.
Why is my preview taking time to load?
A preview may pause after a period of inactivity. When you come back, the builder can restart it. This doesn't affect your published app.
Can I restore a deleted app?
Deleted apps can't currently be restored from Client App Builder. Make sure you no longer need an app before deleting it.
